1. HERE I AM
Saturn is the 6th planet in line and
orbits our Sun at an approximate
886 million miles.
2. IM PRETTY BIG
Though Saturn is not the biggest
planet in our solar system, it is the
2nd largest, only to be trumped by
Jupiter. Still, spanning 9 Earth's side
by side would not suffice to match
Saturn's diameter.
3. MANY MOONS
It can't be said that it is not crowded
around Saturn. With 53 moons
and 9 others awaiting confirmation
it could be said that Saturn is it's
own mini solar system.
4. GASEOUS GIGANTOUS
Saturn is one of the giant gas
planets that reside in our solar
system. With only Jupiter being
bigger, Saturn is mostly comprised
of Hydrogen and Helium, just like
Jupiter and may also have a
solid core.
5. WHERE DID THEY GO
It seems that once every 29 1/2 yrs.
Saturn appears to loose its
signature characteristic, it's rings.
Don't worry, Saturn doesn't actually
loose it's rings. It is an optical
illusion that happens when Saturn's
rings are edge-on with Earth.
6. ANOTHER LONG YEAR
Saturn has a long year and a
very short day. 10.7 approximate
hrs. to spin once on its axis and
a grueling 29 yrs. to orbit the Sun.
7. IN ANCIENT TIMES
In ancient times the planets were
attributed to the days of the week,
metals, and certain rites.
Saturn was attributed to the
day Saturday as it's attributed metal
was lead.
8. EASY TO SEE
Saturn can be seen with the naked
eye and can easily be studied with
a small telescope or binoculars.
9. NOTHING HERE
Satun itself can't support life as we
know it, but some it's moons may
have the required conditions.
